What if a private investigator looking into the death of an environmental activist uncovers a link to her own past and a devastating secret that will turn her world upside down?
Jude Lawson is hired by a university student and environmental activist to find out what happened to her boyfriend who was found dead in a logging coupe in East Gippsland. The coroner deemed it a suicide, but his girlfriend doesn’t believe it.
Ask Balder, an ageing academic on the cusp of retirement, carries a long-held guilt that he may have contributed to the death of an old friend Harvey twenty years earlier. Harvey’s only surviving family member was a girl called Jude Lawson. When Askr finds out one of his students has hired Jude to investigate the death of her boyfriend, he decides he needs to set the historical record straight.
When Jude goes to Gippsland to investigate the student’s death in the logging coupe, she uncovers information that could lead to the truth about her father’s death twenty years earlier. Jude realises she has two investigations to solve, but small-town suspicion of outsiders presents barriers to the truth. What she eventually discovers will change her life forever.
